Canvas Carport Cheap and Functional: Using a Canvas Carport

There are times when you need convenient, weatherproof, outdoor storage, but you don't have a carport, and building one or having one built is simply out of the question. In a case like that, you may wish to consider using a canvas carport; not as durable or even as weather resistant as steel, aluminum, or even vinyl, it is nevertheless a good, safe way of storing things temporarily.

If you do only need to store something for a short period of time, you may wish to consider borrowing a canvas carport from a friend, if you know someone who has them, rather than buying one for yourself. But if you don't know anyone who has one, or if they won't or can't let you borrow it, you may end up needing to purchase your own canvas carport. It most likely won't be a wasted purchase; these carports are not ideal for long term storage, but they can come in wonderfully useful for many short term storage uses

Slightly more difficult to put up and take down, and also slightly more weatherproof, than your average camping tent, a canvas carport is nevertheless a good temporary storage solution. It can be used to store anything that needs to stay out of the rain, but that won't be damaged by some humidity, as the canvas will keep out the rain, but not the humidity. Additionally, most models can be taken down after you are through using them.

They will need a level area, raised above the waterflow, to sit on, like a more expensive and more permanent carport. If you're looking for more long term storage, consider using vinyl or aluminum. The main benefit of a canvas carport is its comparatively low price and its relative mobility.

Ideal for families who need shelter for their stuff while they're moving in to a new house, for rearranging and for moving furniture and other things out while redecorating, canvas carports should not be seriously considered as a permanent storage solution.
